Week 5 Challenge: Food Science Breakdown

August 14, 2020

Challenge Begins Monday, August 17th

This week’s challenge is centered around Chemistry in Candy, but what does that mean?

Chemistry is a form of science that studies how and why substances combine and/or separate from each other and how substances interact with energy. Everything you eat to nourish your body is a form of chemistry. Mission Ignite wants to see how you can create a chemical reaction using what you have in the kitchen!

Now what do you do for the challenge?

This week you are the scientist and your conducting your own experiment. Try to find the most creative chemical reaction you can safely of course, using candy.

With your parent or guardians help, get creative with chemistry using candy.

  • List all materials used in your experiment
  • Write out your procedure in how to complete the experiment in up to 10 steps (the more information the better)
  • Perform the experiment safely while adding your own creativity
  • Make sure your video is no longer than 1:00 minute long
  • Follow this rubric to maximize your points
  • Have fun!
Once you’re done have your parent or guardian submit your entry to info@summersmart.org or text (716) 823-7248 no later than 2:00pm Friday August 21st
